Gorilla permits are date-specific thus only valid for the date for which it reserved at the time of payment. It’s therefore null and void if the date passes.

Gorilla permits are booked on first come, first served basis. We therefore need to have actual dates and reserved them ahead of time to avoid disappointment.

Minimum Gorilla Tracking date is 15yrs thus one has to be old enough to handle the strenuous nature of the actively. Porters are available for physical and luggage support at a fee.

While possession of a gorilla permit is a guarantee of trekking and sighting the gorillas, the quality of the gorilla trekking cannot be guaranteed. Maximum time allowed with the gorillas will NOT exceed ONE hour.

We strongly recommend the following: Rain poncho (lightweight), long-sleeved shirt, waterproof trousers, sturdy hiking boots, leather gardening -type gloves, sunscreen, insect repellent and any necessary medications must be brought by yourselves from your home town. Still Cameras and Video Cameras are allowed, but bring their respective accessories.


Day 1: Airport Pick-up & City Tour!

Warm arrival and welcome assistance at Entebbe International airport. Transfer to Kampala and embark on a City Tour. Break for Lunch, check-in at Kampala Sheraton for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Kampala-Murchison Falls – Chimpanzee Tracking

A new day unveils on panoramic Kampala hills, wake-up, have breakfast, check-out and join your driver-guides on a journey to Murchison Falls National Park. Access the park via Kichumbanyobo gate and drive under shades of green to Kanio Pabidi section of Budongo Forest. Lunch at Eco Lodge – Budong. Undergo briefing by the resident ranger/guide and follow him/her as he leads you to the chimpanzee sanctuary. Other resident primates are olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys and grey-cheeked mangabeys among others. Your informative guide shall show you the various types of trees and narrate stories about the forest in the ancient times of the traditional kings. The highlight of the tracking session is “man’s closest cousins”, the chimpanzees that you can see at close quarters. Proceed with the drive under a canopy of green, cross seasonal Sambiya River to arrive on time for a ferry to the north-bank of the Nile. Settle-in at Paraa Lodge for the rest of the evening.

Day 3: Sunrise game-drive – Waterfall Boat – Hike to the Top of Murchison Falls.

Wake-up to the wild sounds and join your driver/guide on an early morning game-drives. Murchison Falls is haven to 76 mammal species and over 451 recorded bird-species. The north-bank section is savannah that is naturally decorated with borassus palms, acacia trees and riverine woodland. Looking out for Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Herds of Buffaloes, Rothschild giraffe, Hippos by the delta, Waterbuck, Bushback and Jackson’s Hartebeest among others. The birdlife is also rich with species like the Abyssinian Ground Horn Bill, Grey Herons, African Fish Eagle and Saddle-billed Storks among others. Return to the Lodge for lunch. 

At 1400hrs, transfer down to the pier/dock on the Nile River. Get on board and undergo briefing by the boat-guide. Against the current, start your boat-cruise heading to Murchison Falls. En-route, you are likely to see Hippos, Nile Crocodiles and other animal species grazing on the banks. Birding enthusiasts are likely to spot African Fish Eagles, Pied Kingfishers, Malachite Kingfishers, Red-throated bee-eaters and egret species among others. The boat shall pull over close to a rock before the “Devil’s Cauldron”, take pictures, sit on the rocks and exploit every moment with full sight of the Bottom of Murchison Falls. Dis embark from the boat and take a hike to the Top of Murchison Falls. At the top, you will bear witness to the great wonder of nature as Mighty Nile funnels itself through a 7 – 8 meter gorge. With incredible force, the Nile roars and groans creating a permanent spillage and a set of rainbow arches. Join your driver/guide for transfer back to the ferry and finally end your day at Paraa Lodge.

Day 4: Pakuba Airstrip – Kisoro Airstrip-Gisenyi-Goma DR Congo

Wake-up to the rhythm of nature, check-out and have an early breakfast. Bid farewell to Paraa (ethnic Luo language to mean “Place of Hippos”) and transfer to Pakuba airstrip to arrive on time for you domestic flight to Kisoro. Upon arrival at Kisoro a new team shall meet you and conduct a briefing for the second section of your trip. Get on board proceed to Cyanika border, after going through immigrations enter Rwanda and continue to Gisenyi border with DR Congo. After immigrations procedures enter Goma – DR Congo and overnight at Mikeno Lodge – Virunga.

Forest Breeze in Mikeno, an early breakfast, pack lunch and attend briefing and get acquainted with the dos and don’ts while in Virunga (Africa’s oldest National Park)! With full gorilla trekking gear follow your allocated ranger-guide as he/she leads you into the dense and ultimate Virunga wilderness. Maintain silence for full sights and sounds this dense forest. The awe and thrill of laying your eyes on the furry great apes is an incredibly rewarding experience. Exploit every moment as you watch the gentle apes feed, play, climb and swing from branch to branch or simply relaxing after a feeding session. Remember you can only carry pictures and memories and as you photograph, do it without a camera flash. After a full strictly regulated one hour with the amazing apes, you will be asked to leave, stroll, hike and descend through this pristine and ancient forest back to the staging area. Transfer back to Mikeno Lodge; possible visit to the gorilla orphanage if time permits.

Day 6: Nyiragongo Hike

As the veil of darkness vanishes in Mikeno, wake-up, have breakfast and prepare for yet another exciting expedition – Nyiragongo hike. Transfer to Kibati Information Center for a briefing session. After briefing rally behind your allocated guides and rangers and embark on an approximately 7hr hike to the Nyiragongo (Boiling Pot) Lava Lake. At a height of 3470m above sea-level, its biting cold thus requires real hiking gear. Meals shall be served on the Mountain and overnight in the Cabins on the Mountain. Cabins have no beddings; we’ll have a Mikeno Pack/Volcano pack to be fully prepared for the adventure. Spend the rest of the night under the stars and watching the larva lake.

Day 7: Nyiragongo Descent – Kigali, Rwanda

Special morning at a height of over 3000 meters above sea-level, have breakfast and embark on an approximately 3hrs descent to the base of the cone. Bid farewell to Virunga Conservation area and cross the border back to Gisenyi-Rwanda. Embark on a long scenic ride to Kigali with Lunch en-route. Settle-in at Kigali Serena for the rest of evening..

Day 8: Kigali City Tour

A new day unveils over Capital of the “Land of 1000 Hills”, watch the sunrise as you have breakfast at the Amazing Kigali Serena. After your leisurely breakfast, join your driver/guides on a Kigali City Tour. Drive up to Gisozi and visit the Genocide Museum where the earth speaks of indescribable hatred and brutality. Continue to the Museum of Natural Science and then to Local Markets. End the Tour with a visit to the Presidential Palace of the former president of Rwanda Late. Habyarimana. There is be an opportunity to do shopping during the City Tour. Dinner and Overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 9: Kigali-Bujumbura-Tanganyika Boat-Cruise.

Dawn breaks over Kigali Hills, rise early, have breakfast and transfer to Kayibanda-Kanombe International Airport to arrive on time for your onward flight to Bujumbura Burundi at 0830hrs. Arrive at 0915hrs, meet, greet and assist upon arrival and transfer to Club Du Lac Tanganyika. Check-in, relax and have lunch. In the afternoon, take a boat-ride on Lake Tanganyika. Spend the rest of the evening relax by Africa’s deepest lake.

Day 10: Bujumbura Tour – Departure.

Serene morning on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, have breakfast and get on board for the Bujumbura City Tour as well as shopping for Curio items/souvenirs. Return to Club du Lac Tanganyika for a hot lunch. At 1600hrs, depart the hotel heading to Bujumbura airport to arrive on time for your 1815hrs flight back home.
