1 Day tour – Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Located about 23 nautical kilometers off Entebbe pier/dock, Ngamba Island was established in 1998 as an artificial sanctuary for orphaned chimpanzees and those confiscated from traffickers. Today, the Chimpanzee Sanctuary is home to about 48 chimpanzees. Great conservation work done by Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (CSWCT).

There are two sessions for visits to Ngamba Island; the morning session begins at 0900hrs and ends at about 1245hrs whereas the afternoon session begins at 1300hrs and ends at 1700hrs. It takes approximately 45 minutes by speedboat to the Island and guests get there on time to witness a feeding session. It is amazing to watch them from an electro-fenced platform as they scramble and acrobatically get hold of the food.

Overnight experience is available and guests can spend a night/s in luxury-tented units. There are a series of vaccination required to interact with the chimpanzees as a day’s keeper and other forms of physical contact with the chimpanzees. Remember human beings share about 98.7% of genes with human beings making them vulnerable to contracting human communicable diseases.
